This was painted on location ("plein air") in the Sculpture Garden at the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. The foreground shows Henry Moore's "Sheep Piece" and the background figures are by Juan Munoz.

Karen Coggeshall

I am both a painter and a printmaker -- these two disciplines provide balance to my creative process and I freely move between the representational subjects in my paintings and the abstract imagery in my printmaking. My monoprints combine diverse inspirational sources (tapestries, Japanese wood-blocks and ceramics) with vibrant colors, patterns and textures to create compelling semi-abstractions. Painting "en Plein Air" has given me an appreciation for the hidden beauty in the city and surrounding environs where I live. Strong influences in my work are Classicism, Impressionism, Aestheticism, Fauvism, the Arts and Crafts Movement and the Nabis of the 19th Century.
