Artist's Description
I drew this directly from Henry Moore's "Sheep Piece" in the Legion of Honor Musuem, San Francisco, California. I was inspired by the reflections of light on the hard, cold surface and the beautiful texture of the etched lines in the bronze.
About Karen Coggeshall
I am both a painter and a printmaker -- these two disciplines provide balance to my creative process and I freely move between the representational subjects in my paintings and the abstract imagery in my printmaking. My monoprints combine diverse inspirational sources (tapestries, Japanese wood-blocks and ceramics) with vibrant colors, patterns and textures to create compelling semi-abstractions. Painting "en Plein Air" has given me an appreciation for the hidden beauty in the city and surrounding environs where I live. Strong influences in my work are Classicism, Impressionism, Aestheticism, Fauvism, the Arts and Crafts Movement and the Nabis of the 19th Century.
